Russian Romantic Harp Music

The Firebird's Feather is an album of music by the most romantic of Romantic composers played on the most romantic of instruments.

When you think of music from the Romantic period, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and numerous other Russian composers are amongst the first to spring to mind - the soaring melodies, the luscious harmonies, spiced with an occasional touch of melancholy...

And whilst Tchaikovsky's music for the harp tended to be the occasional flourish in his ballet music, and Rachmaninov generally wrote for the piano, there were a number of their similarly gifted contemporaries who wrote equally rich music specifically for solo harp.

The Firebird's Feather contains a collection of these lesser known gems, plus a sumptuous piano Prelude by Rachmaninov that sounds arguably even more beautiful on the harp.

Russian composers rival the French in bringing the harp to a position of importance in 20th Century music. They too realised that the harp can help transport your mind to another place perhaps more than any other single instrument.

And no-one is better suited to convey this rapturous music with the energy and passion it requires than one of Britain's finest harpists, Danielle Perrett.

Why not listen to some sound clips and hear for yourself?

Beartramka was formed by composer David Gough and harpist Danielle Perrett in 1999 in response to a need for some music for the harp which fulfilled the particular criteria of the Trinity College London (now TrinityGuildhall) harp exam syllabuses which Danielle was compiling.

In particular, the Lever/non-pedal harp syllabus was being greatly expanded and there was little suitable music available to put into the syllabus, so we wrote some, commissioned some, and entered the music publishing business.

We continue to add to the repertoire of exam pieces, not only for TrinityGuildhall. The ABRSM harp syllabus also uses some of our music, but more importantly we are adding to the general repertoire of music for both Pedal and Lever Harps.

We have also expanded our range and added recordings to our activities, of which there are three currently available.

The harp world is quite small but widely spread, so we often send goods around the world, either to customers directly, or to a number of respected distributors.
